I can’t remember when I first discovered Leslie Bulion and her work — it was likely Spik-u: A Clutter of Short Verse on Eight Legs. I’m pretty sure I picked this title off the shelf at my favorite used book store and thought, “What the heck is this?” 😂
I read poetry aloud when my son was a baby. He was a terrible sleeper, and reading aloud from this book of children's poetry helped me keep a bit of a grasp on sanity. He's incredibly articulate now (when he's not pretending to be a tiger - he's 5), he asked me if I "would like a precise description of what happened?" yesterday and I'm going to blame the poetry.
The science and poetry combination is so unique! I love it and the illustrations are amazing. It is so important to have a variety of book types in home and school libraries and this is an important one to add.
Off the top of my head: Douglas Florian and Joyce Sidman are also both outstanding in this genre. You can't go wrong with ANY of their books, and I really mean that.
These books sound perfect for my kids. They love science and animals, but sometimes books don’t present the information in an interesting way and they get bored. I’m adding some of these to my library list!
Firing up my library app now as these sound fab.

The science and poetry combo is super unique -- Bulion's work has sent me down a rabbit hole to find more authors and work like hers.
I would love to hear other authors you have found like her. I will keep following to hear more!

Thank you!
You're welcome. If I come up (or discover) with any more, I'll let you know.

Excellent interview! Can’t wait to check these books out!
