Okay, well now I want to make stretchy dough and clay just for me! It legit sounds so fun to bring some childhood joy into my life, I might just do that . . .
I love Jan Brett SO MUCH! I have to say that I’m devastated that the weekend she’ll be in Wisconsin / Minnesota is the same weekend that my youngest has a two-day basketball tournament. NOOOOOOOOOO! WHY!!!???? Even if I go see Jan by myself, I can’t take the kid with! Anyway, thanks for putting this on my radar!
Katy, would you go to the Cities, Wausau, or Madison? (Aren't those all basically the same distance from you? .............. long pause as I acknowledge that I googled your real name and am basing this information off what I found, which may or may not actually be the school where you work 😬 Not trying to be creepy! I just love that you're a fellow Wisconsinite! And while I'm digging this weird hole, let me say that if you come to Madison for the Jan Brett thing, let me know so we can say hello while we're in the same room?)
Sarah - I love that you know my real name and can find me online ~ the true mark of an internet friendship ;-) I would go to Madison for sure, but after digging into the event, can’t actually find tickets? Is it a “just show up” thing? That always makes me nervous because do I have to stand outside to get in line for Jan Brett like I did for Taylor?? Should I manage to get there, and get inside, then YES we need to meet up! I’ll also have to make a stop at Room of One’s Own of course!
Ha! When it has progressed to internet stalking, it's real 😉
Tickets aren't on sale yet for any Wisconsin Book Festival event, not just Jan Brett. (I think they do this on purpose, though I can't imagine why.) I will definitely keep an eye out and email/Slack you when I have further information...
You know Room moved, right? It's no longer downtown. So instead of walking from the Central Library to its old location, you'll have to drive a couple miles to Atwood Avenue. (Not a huge deal, just wanted to make sure you're aware.)
Oooh thanks for the ticket update - good to know! As for Room, I have only ever been to the new location! And I don't actually know where Central Library is but Google Maps is my trusty friend. This whole trip is going to be weather-dependent of course, since I don't touch I-90 in the snow.......
"If you, too, are feeling overwhelmed and frustrated and saddened by things outside of your control, things entirely in your control that you managed to bungle up anyway, unspeakable and crushing world sorrow, low energy, regular life ennui, unfinished business that seems so simple and yet the other party involved is still avoiding you and any sort of resolution or closure"
HAHA! I love it.
I had a few MaryAnn Kohl books when my kids were wee ones but now I'm a bit sad we didn't dip into them as much as I thought we might. I was always big on art with my kids too (they'll just make ANOTHER mess SOMEWHERE...we might as well enjoy art together in the meantime). I'd never seen any of the above ones, though.
Great recommendations, as usual!
PS- We're reading through portions of "Blood and Germs" (civil war) by Gail Jarrow right now - excellent history that is right along with what we're studying. Thanks again!!
I adore her illustrations and her rendition of Night Before Christmas is our go-to on Christmas Eve. Sadly, she'll only be in Boulder or else I'd be clamoring for tickets.
We are allegedly getting our first snow of the season tomorrow, soccer games are canceled, and so some Kohl-approved activities seem in order.
I’m so excited to see Old Mother Hubbard mentioned here! I have an ancient copy that used to live at my Grandmother’s house and it is so well loved by my now 2.5 year old that it inspired his first word(s??)--bow wow!

DO IT! It's so pleasurable it's almost impossible to describe.

Let's stay in touch about it. Now that we know how to find each other 😉

Oh yay! I'm so glad 👏
Just requested first art from the library and I am so excited to check it out!
Keep on keeping on is my refrain these days! So thanks for your uplifting words
Jan Brett! On a bus!

We’re supposed to be getting our first snow Tuesday. I feel strangely elated that it’s not just us 🙄

It’s SUCH a gem! We absolutely adore it.
