That poem will split you right open! Thanks for sharing. I love book suggestions for the older kids, being an auntie who loves to gift books!

Cindy Baldwin is the best!!! Her other books are just as stellar.

I read this book as part of my work as a judge in the poetry category for a literary award and it was my introduction to Baldwin... I couldn't put it down and I was so impressed. Thanks for the endorsement -- I will definitely be checking out the rest of her work!

That poem is beautiful and gutting.

Your description of books that make you want to jump in and join the meal brought to mind two food related picture books that I love. The Little Kitchen, by Jillian Tamaki is gorgeous and a loving depiction of neighbors coming together to cook for the community. We also love Everybody Cooks Rice, by Norah Dooley. I can’t actually speak to its qualities in an intellectual way because I loved it so much as a kid and then my son also loved it (he had most of it memorized when he was 2❤️). It’s the first in a series - there’s bread, noodles, and soup!

I loved that poem the moment I saw it too!!! And I adore everything by Julie Flett - she’s an auto buy for my library!
