Oh! Your prologue is a Christmas story to keep and share with yourself each year! I'm glad it all worked out. I was speed reading to to keep my heart from exploding.
I also love Beastly Verse - it's one I passed along and almost wish I hadn't. I can still feel the weight and smell of those pages, and I'm also happy it's somewhere in the universe.
May all things be free, twinkling, and find their way to wherever they call home - via school bus, community food line, and familiar roads.
What a beautifully written story, and I'm so glad the bus incident ended okay. It's so nice to see others be kind and help others, in a world that is too often too mean and too loud and too scary, and small moments of humanity make me hopeful.
I grew up outside Chicago, but spent every summer in Rhinelander! My grandfather still has his cabin there, and we brought our kids this summer. I had forgotten what it was like, and I was sad to leave.
Sarah, you've bought tears to my eyes with your prologue and I'm so glad your daughter is safe, the trolls weren't harmed, and that you you were reminded that human tenderness still exists. Even though this is your experience, it helped me to refocus and recenter myself during this season and I'm so thankful for that. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!
You remind me of me in the story you shared. Calm and collected, knowing it will all work out, and then later--triggered by some seemingly ordinary event--letting all that stress out with tears and buckets of gratitude. Merry Christmas to you and yours and thank you for a year of fine work.
Beautifully written. Thank you.
Love this story, Sarah!
Thank you!

Thanks, Cassie!
I love this story. Human tenderness. That's the gift we carry and can find all around us. What a beautiful reminder. Thank you!
Thanks, Elizabeth.
Thank you for the gift of your words today. I'm all teary-eyed and sharing it around to those I love. Happy holidays to you and yours. <3
Oh, thank you so much, Kara -- this made my day ❤️
Sarah, I loved this post. Growing up in the midwest, I didn't realize the specialness of the people there until I moved away.
Thanks, Katie! It's true. It's a huge part of why I chose to stay here -- these are my people.

I love that and I love northern Wisconsin — it’s a special place.

Thanks so much, Darcy! Merry Christmas to you and your family, too ❤️
Agree everything Grace Lin writes is gold! I haven’t read this one yet so I look forward to getting it.
Beautiful story, Sarah! Happy Holidays to you and your family! I’m waving to you from Freezing Chicago to even more Freezing Wisconsin! 🤗 💙🥶
👋 Thanks so much, Jolene. Stay safe!
