Sarah!!! What!!! How amazing that you got to interview her. You did an awesome job and I love her answers and the origin story of the book! Oh I have to read this with the kids, thank you so much.

Loooove that quote about the impossible.

Thanks, Hope. I loved the origin story of the book, too! If you and your family read it, I'd love to hear what you think. It's a quiet book, but very beautiful.

Wow!!! What an awesome opportunity! I must admit that I have not read many of her books (wondering why that is 🤔). Must read this one before movie lands!

It's not my favorite of hers -- that honor goes to Francine Poulet Meets the Ghost Raccoon, part of the Deckawood Drive series + all her Mercy Watson books, every single one of which makes me laugh out loud -- but you really can't go wrong with any of them. I think for adults I'd recommended Flora & Ulysses and/or The Beatryce Prophecy to start. Maybe also The Tiger Rising? I mean, there's a lot to choose from 😂

I have wanted to read more of Kate DiCamillo's books since finishing the surprising and wonderful The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. In fact I want to read eveir one of her books. I love this interview.

Edward Tulane is one of the few I haven't read, though I trust it's excellent. The Magician's Elephant is quieter, dreamier, and in some ways more philosophical than many of her other books, but it's lovely.

This is incredible that you had these opportunities! And Kate DiCamillo!!! One of the authors I fell in love with as a kid and am still enamored with today—her work is truly so timeless.

Congratulations on the interview! Very well done. You are introducing me to children's books I would never find any other way. Now I know what to buy and read to my 7-year old grandson. He is beginning to read on his own and it is great fun to share his joy of what happens on the next page. Thanks for your work that benefits families and children.

Oh Gary, thank you so much -- this means the world to me. (And I've already said your grandson is so lucky to have you, but it bears repeating -- what a gift.)

Sarah, wow. Kate DiCamillo is the queen and what a nice interview. I haven't read The Magician's Elephant and am about to change that because I am with you - you must read the book before watching the movie!

Reading through all these comments-I think you’d LOVE Edward Tulane, Sarah. It might be one of my favorites. Darcy 👆🏻and I just organized a bunch of books today for our school’s used book fair and I think she set aside a copy of Magician’s Elephant-it’s one of the only ones I haven’t read!

I will have to read Edward Tulane ASAP. And wait, did I know you and Darcy know each other? (Work together?) I LOVE the idea of a used book fair; that’s amazing.

Yes! So, Darcy introduced me to your newsletter. We don't work together, but our kids go to school together and she's become a dear friend. The used book fair concept is fantastic! Our families donated gently used books, we set them up in the lobby of the school so kids and families can shop (at a very low cost), and the proceeds are donated to another school or community non-profit!
