Thanks for the reminder on the Math book - I just requested it from the library. I am often embarrassed? Humbled? At how little math I *understand* as an adult.
We’re similar with the math trauma. And I’ve made a pointed effort never (ever) to say anything negative about math in front of my kids and just make it all positive and blah blah...and my daughter still came home one day last year (2nd grade) and had decided she was “bad” at math. trying so hard to change it...
Thank you so much for the math rec! I have a reluctant math student but he also needs to read several books about math as part of a class assignment. This looks like it may actually interest him.
Let me know if you are looking for something specific -- if he finds a math topic he wants to read more about -- because even though there's a lot in that post (nearly everything I know, haha), I have a couple of reference books that focus on math readers and might be able to help you delve even deeper.
Adding (math joke) these all to my want to read pile! Sometimes my youngest looks up at me and asks “but you are a good witch, right?” TBD baby girl. TBD.
Thanks, as always, for the magical little space you create here.
I feel like we should all be handed Monster Mama the second we become parents. I really look forward to reading that one!
Happy Solstice, friend! I look forward to beginning the new year on light note 😉
Agreed! It’s a good one. Happy solstice!
The Monster Mama art is some of my absolute favorite.
Stephen Gammell is really underrated, in my mind.

You're very welcome! If you need more -- like, a LOT more -- I wrote a huge issue in 2022 about developing mathematical thinking through children's books: https://canweread.substack.com/p/math-books-for-kids?s=w
Thank you Sarah. You really are treasure trove. I had no idea where to look.

I mean.... depends on the day, doesn't it? 🧙♀️😉
