Ordering The Children of Noisy Village now! My grandmother was Swedish so I feel as though this is a book we need at my house. Emil and the Sneaky Rat is a hilarious non-Pippi book by Astrid Lindgren that I used to read to my students.

Yes! The Emil books are great (though they are harder to get a hold of, for sure).

Ohhhhh I’d totally forgotten about Noisy Village. I’m going to dig that oldie out… will check out the others too…

I read The Children of Noisy Village earlier this year to my then-6yo (due to your recommendation, of course!) and she couldn't get enough of it. There were several parts that had both of us laughing out loud. Thanks for introducing me to such a gem!

I am so glad to hear this -- it's a great read-aloud for that age!

The title of this one made me think of the villain song from Pocahontas :) One of the most underrated of Disney villain songs, I think.

Totally underrated. Ratcliffe always reminds me of Ratigan from The Great Mouse Detective (who was even creepier, imo).

Yes!!!! Also he’s voiced by David Ogden Stiers who I may have a bit of an obsession with…

And yeah, Great Mouse Detective is definitely one of those fabulous yet overlooked Disney films.

Crying after reading *only* the intro to “The Most Beautiful Thing.” Am I ready for the full book?

Absolutely not 😂 (It's a grandma story, so, you know.)

You've sent me down a rabbit hole as we have a new family at school, and I think I've been using the wrong title to describe their head scarves! Looking into khimar now and checking out from the library and obviously chatting with my kiddo's new friend!

I *love* Astrid Lindgren as well - we read Noisy Village years ago as a family read-aloud and both of my kids laughed along with the kids' antics. And family fact - I first heard the name "Annika" on Pippi (one of my favorite movies as a kid), and I had forgotten about the name until I was in college. When I heard the name again I thought, "yes.. *that's* the name". My own Anikka is now 15. The book love runs deep!!!

Love Astrid Lindgren. Our family favorite is Lotta's bike and we've been to her museum in Stockholm (it was very cool). I've requested The Most Beautiful Thing, too -- thanks for getting my request list at the library active again after an August hiatus.
