I’m so glad that you’re continuing to write! I enjoy your newsletters. Would you mind if I link to this newsletter in my Friday review post? (I do micro reviews of children’s books on Friday and then link to Substack reads I’ve found interesting that week.)
We almost named our child Alma, and I still smile whenever I see the name. Had our kid been born with dark hair we would have had an Alma. I love that it means "soul," and "mother" in different languages.
Oh Marlena, I love this. I think C's name fits them, but then, isn't that how we always feel once a child has lived with a name for even a small amount of time? It's hard to imagine them as anything else; they are already who they are, name included.
“It’s just children’s books, I know this — it’s not world- or even life-changing,...”
Oh, but it is. Maybe not the *whole* world, but who know when you might suggest a book that an Ayah (that’s me) buys and reads to her grandchildren and it changes their world or their life in some way.
I feel this so much, the "it's just books," but also, books mean so much to so many people, and I've found such good community in these spaces, and that's what keeps me coming back. So happy to be a reader, both of books and of your newsletter :)
Sarah, I'm so grateful that you are still writing.
I've just requested Hannah's Night (and the others you recommended) because my 4-year-old does just this -- wakes before the rest of us and wanders around the house doing her own thing. When I wake, I can follow a trail around the house and guess at what she's been up to and it brings me a lot of joy (I did once find her fully dressed and looking for breakfast at 4 AM and had to cajole her back into bed...). I cannot wait to read this to her!
Glad you’re here. Sarah!
Thanks, Jolene -- you know the feeling is 100% mutual ❤️

Thanks so much, Amanda. And of course you may link -- I appreciate the support!

Definitely! C came out, we looked at one another, and said, "this is C." Case closed <3

Me too, Cassie -- I feel so lucky to have found this "place" with so many wonderful people. Thanks for reading!

Ooooh, it sounds like this will be a perfect match -- I'd love to hear how it goes over!
