My attitude toward reaching out to authors and illustrators for interviews for this newsletter is, “If you don’t ask, they can’t say yes.” When I started doing this, it didn’t really occur to me that I have zero media credentials; I just kind of thought, well, what do I have to lose? No one has ever said no, some of them never respond, many of them say yes and then graciously take the time to answer my questions.
Hooray for asking and for Boston Weatherford for saying "yes"! I also learned a new word: encomia. I am so grateful that this word exists and want to sing its praises for being a word that literally speaks to praise. How cool that she co-wrote with her child, too.
Oh my goodness, we've read and loved so many of these books, but I didn't know they were all the same author! (sadly, in the thousands of books I've read to my children, I can't keep them all straight!)
A great interview! I don't know how her books weren't on my radar but I'm making a library trip today to fix that!
Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters is one of my favorites. This was such a pleasure to read. Thank you for this interview!
Great interview! I will definitely check out her books.

You went beyond the internet rabbit hole to the front door!!! 🤩 wow wow! What a treasure.
