Thanks for these ideas, Hoang! Middle grade novels are probably my favorite genre but I have so much trouble figuring out which modern ones are good. These look awesome!

These are my favorites but there are plenty of other good options too. I suggest going to your local library and asking a librarian for recommendations. In my experience, librarians are so knowledgeable, way more than we think they are. Luckily some of these titles have sequels which I’m reading right now and it’s great!

I second this! Librarians are a tremendous resource (and seem to be particularly good at middle-grade recommendations, I think because they never stopped reading them!)

So funny! I'm currently re-reading my favorite middle grade series (I actually only knew there was one book back when I was a middle grade reader) and am so enjoying it. A great break from adult books.

Middle-grade mystery PLUS an art mystery? I am totally picking up The Harlem Charade ASAP! Like my two favorite things combined!

Terrific post and great new choices I’ll pass along, Sarah and Hoang!

A Wrinkle in Time came out when I was in school and we’d all read it and it was like a middle-school book club discussion group in the cafeteria at lunch!
