Ooooh I haven’t ventured into the world of Coraline at all but now I absolutely must! (And there’s a graphic novel!?) Neil Gaiman’s narration IS incredible; I loved his Norse Mythology (Thor in a wedding dress!!!) and last October we listened to Graveyard Book and it was absolutely perfect. I made my mom listen, and she adored it too.

And I love the note about the girl who pretended not to be scared so she could find out what happened! Love it.

Also, happy birthday to your youngest, Sarah! 🙌🏼

Norse Mythology is SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOD. I've been trying to get people to read/listen to it for years. I feel like he made norse mythology so accessible, even for people who don't like it or don't think they like it. He's an absolute genius.

(Thank you! I can't believe my little one is turning seven. SEVEN.)

Very interesting! I loved the movie, and now want to read the book.

I still haven't watched the movie so I can't speak to the differences (Kyle did that so well, anyway), but I can highly recommend the book!

I'd be very curious to hear about your experience as a movie lover who then reads the book. Please share when you finish!

Loved this! I signed up for a Neil Gaiman MasterClass a while ago and hearing him read from and talk about Coraline was a WOW experience. Once again, good writing is good writing for all ages.

That's so true, Jolene! (And how amazing was the master class? Did Neil teach it himself?)

YES!! Absolutely mesmerizing, so wildly talented and as you said: “have you heard him read?” I’m gonna email you some info.

It's been a while since I've read or watched Coraline. Maybe my adult son would be interested in rewatching it with me (fat chance of him rereading it with me though, LOL). Middle grade books are some of the best ever written, and I'm glad your 20-year-old self decided to read it!

We only watched the trailer of the film and both my kids were like, OH HELLLLLL NO (they don't like anything even remotely scary) but my husband and I both want to watch it and I swear I'm gonna make it happen in the next few weeks.

Oooh, haven't read the book or seen the movie and now have the audiobook on request. Thank you!

I'm sad for your 20-year-old self, Sarah, and glad you did what you needed to do. And happy birthday to your youngest!

I appreciate that, Darcy -- but my 20yo self is part of who I am today, and she helped me get here to this great life, along with all my other past selves. (She also had a hell of a lot of fun with those bad choices, so there's also that 😂)
