Thanks, Sarah! Yes, Owl Moon is a total classic — I had the audio read-along as a kid and I still remember the sounds of the owl and the chills it would send up my spine. It’s been awhile since I’ve read it — you’ve inspired me to make sure I get to it with my kids this season. Cheers!
The first time I experienced it was through audiobook and yes, chills up my spine, as an adult. We have a copy now and I try to read it just as it was read.
Owl Moon haunts me to this day, in a good way. As a child we had a tape that read it to us and it come to mind on nights of full winter moon. I also love the illustrations of Jan Brett books in winter. My sister gave my youngest Three Snow Bears for Christmas.
Yessss! I love this, Trevor! Thanks so much for coming back and letting me know.
(My 8yo read Snow to me the night before last, and let me tell you: there is something magical about listening to your child read you a book that you read to them at 2yo. I hope you get to experience that someday.)
My kids (5 and 8) LOVED Lemonade in Winter. SO MUCH. We read it together every night for over a week and they never tired of counting out the money, doing the math, etc. Thank you for this recommendation!
Love this list! Such a gift. Owl Moon is one of my favorites, too!

I love this.
A Tea Party in the Woods is a definite favourite here! It’s so beautifully illustrated.
Agreed! I also love its magical realism — like, it feels possible, you know?

Yes! Jan Brett does an especially incredible job with winter scenes. My favorite is The Snowy Nap.
I picked up Snow from the library last week because of this post. So good! My 2-year-old loves it. She calls it the Humpty Dumpty book.

You're so welcome! And I love hearing this -- that someone (or several someones 😉) enjoyed a book I recommended. Thanks for coming back to tell me!
Wonderful, wintry mix (ha!)!
