My daughter has been getting very nervous and skeptical about bugs being around her- I bought Cricket in the Thicket immediately. Bugs are our friends!
Some recent, vaguely Spring-coded books, from the library for us:
Today's Sun by Gregg Dreise. A board book with (Australian) black & white Aboriginal-ish art of Australian animals paired with brief poems that are kind of paens to the different parts of the day's light.
Nature's Song by Robert Vescio. A young girl is stuck inside helping care for her brother who appears to be bed-ridden with a broken leg. It isn't made explicit in the text, making a good opportunity for visual comprehension with your kids. Eventually the mother grants her some time outside, which she spends enjoying the outdoors and collecting things to bring inside for her brother, i.e. bringing the outside inside so he can enjoy it instead of missing out. A nice celebration of Being Outside.
Great selections! I love the spotlight on spring critters. One of my family's favorites is Taro Gomi's Spring Is Here. The text and illustrations are so simple but you can almost hear, smell, and feel the sensations of each season on each page. I will have to check out Frog Day!
I love Melissa Sweet's work - I've read every book she's written and/or illustrated! Her art is *chefs kiss*, so I was happy to see one of her titles here.
Picked a few of these up at my library for some fun perusing. <3
Love, love Briony May Smith. We re-read her other books all the time... the language and the illustrations are magical. Ordering this now for Easter baskets.
Did I tell you Claire has shifted from dinosaurs to turtles? We have and enjoy The Book of Turtles very much. If you ever want a turtle-focused post, I'm your gal ;)
Sy Montgomery seems like precisely the thing for spring. Especially for my non-fiction-obsessed six-year-old. I'm always so grateful for the way these guides bring a sense of refreshment and inspiration to my library trips with him. <3
This is such a great list! Thank you!

I'm so with you about Sy Montgomery. She's amazing. And I want that bug poem book now!!

I’m here for anything Taro Gomi!
My daughter was sitting next to me while I was reading this and has requested that we get every title :)
I cannot tell you how much I love this 💗 You made my morning!

You didn't tell me, but I was just thinking of her the other day, wondering how that interest has been going/growing.
And of course, I want a turtle-focused post -- I've been writing a frog post in my mind for years, just waiting for a reason...

Oh, thank you! I'm so glad these help. (And Sy Montgomery is fantastic!)
