All Through The Year by Jane Godwin is about each of the 12 months from an Australian perspective (i.e. December is summer, February is the start of school, July is snowy; though snow isn't very common where most of us live so it is a bit weird she included that).
What a great selection! And my jaw dropped with horror at the deer hoof. The “worst” I’ve gotten so far is a lot of acorns which I was fine with until a friend had a worm infestation in her car (apparently there’s some small worm that lays its eggs in acorns). 😱
One of our all time fav seasons book is Such a Little Mouse by Alice Shertle. Great fun to read, beautiful illustrations with an extremely cozy ending, and my three year old started referring to “the wide world” as a result of the repeated text!
I love seasons books, thank you for the list! I know you're a big fan of poetry for kids and one of my favorites growing up and now my son's favorite is Out and About by Shirley Hughes. Though it's English, the stories are all about relatable seasonal events like going to the beach, playing in the wind, getting sick, and waiting for the holidays. The kids are all depicted as happily self-directed throughout. Parents are close and loving, but it's all from a young child's autonomous perspectiv.e The illustrations are rich and even though it is long my 3 year old will sit through the whole book with pleasure.
The farm cover is so adorable! I love living in a place with four seasons and would enjoy admiring someone’s beautiful illustrations 🍁🌲❄️☀️

Yes, acorns can be a problem 🪱😂

Oooh, I don’t know that one!
Ok that nature cart does sound fantastic though. And a deer hoof??? Wow...

Yes! I love Out and About and I LOVE Shirley Hughes.
I love these recommendations! I wish I could have had access to your newsletter when my kids were little ;)
We LOVE Little Witch Hazel: A Year in the Forest by Phoebe Wahl. It is so sweet with beautiful, intricate illustrations.
Yes, also a good one.
