I own a shirt that says, on the back, “Everything you can imagine is real.” It’s from Spiritual Gangster, and the quote — from Albert Einstein — is unattributed, which I knew when I bought it.
Last Friday I went to my kids middle school ELA class to read Jabberwocky to them. I asked them how they imagined the beast, the sword, and what some of the nonsense words might mean. It was fun to hear their creative ideas
This list is very timely for me! I was recently listening to a podcast about how some classic characters, like Sara Crewe from "A Little Princess," used their imaginations to protect them and help them survive seemingly impossible situations. I'm passionate about cultivating my children's imaginations and was unsure where to start, so thank you!
A Dinosaur Seed? Claire may have moved on to turtles, but I'm all over this.
I love the idea that "Everything you can imagine is real." I'm reading Harry Potter to my girls for the first time and it it is just so magical and wonderful -- it has me thinking about imagination and dreaming that I might still get my Hogwarts letter.
This is all so good!
Wm. Steig, in his Caldecott acceptance speech, said that, "Wonder is respect for life."
That is so evident in all these -- to nourish Wonder!
Thank you!
Ahhh I love this!! I need that shirt now. Also apparently more Einstein quotes on my wall.
More wonder and awe and imagination! Added several of these to our library holds. 💛
Yay!
Your preamble gave me a good laugh. Well written, Sarah.
Thanks, Andrew 😉

I love that!
Tell Matt he is still my friend, but I agree with you

Glad I could help, Kristin!
