Happy Tuesday! And welcome to my newest experiment with this newsletter.
If you’re like, wait, what is this? Read my explanation of these extra little offerings (on Tuesdays) in last week’s issue. (If you’re entirely new here — welcome! — hop on over here to read about this newsletter, and what you’ll be receiving from me and when.)
Your own mileage may vary with these titles (and all the ones to come in the future) — take what you like and leave the rest!
This week’s Ten Titles, never in any particular order:
Our Friend Hedgehog: The Story of Us by Lauren Castillo
Rainbow Weaver/Tejedora del Arcoiris by Linda Elovitz Marshall
Sincerely, Emerson: A Girl, Her Letter, and the Helpers All Around Us by Emerson Weber
The Stuff of Stars by Marion Dane Bauer
What Miss Mitchell Saw by Hayley Barrett
The Cat Who Walked Across France by Kate Banks
Mio, My Son by Astrid Lindgren
World Famous Muriel and the Magic Mystery by Sue Alexander
Sugar in Milk by Thrity Umrigar
The Fortune-Tellers by Lloyd Alexander
Also: I like this list of 13 Children’s Books With Strong Black Characters from PBS Kids. I reviewed Sulwe by Lupita Nyong’o in issue No. 23 and Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman in issue No. 15. I can recommend Little Leaders: Bold Black Women in History by Vashti Harrison, All Are Welcome by Alexandra Penfold, and — this is an especially strong recommendation for any of who you have babies — Whose Knees Are These? by Jabari Asim. (And I’ll be mentioning Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters by John Steptoe in a special two-part Spotlight On: Folk and Fairytales in a little more than two weeks.)
That’s all from me in this tiny dip into the book pool today. I welcome your feedback about this (or anything else).
Read good books and take good care 😘
